School Restoration & Educator Resources Program

When it comes to education, we believe that children deserve the best. So, we work diligently to bring even the most remote schools up to both national and international education standards.

The Challenges Schools Face:

  • Children in rural areas often struggle to have access to schools. When they do, classrooms can often be deteriorated, not enough space, not well designed for learning, and no resources to support school operations– leaving children without an appropriate place to learn and play.

  • School resources are limited, often without access to age-appropriate textbooks, materials and resources, children struggle to engage with their lessons. They often have limited access to clean water and hygienic toilets, putting children and teachers at risk of life threatening but preventable diseases.

  • Teachers are challenged without proper training and re-certification and very few staff receive support beyond their basic qualification. They often have to use outdated or ineffective teaching methods that cause children’s education to suffer and lag behind standards.

  • Essential policies and practices that keep schools functioning are often missing. These include comprehensive child protection and safeguarding policies, staff training on inclusiveness, and the basic school administration practices that allow children to get the most out of their education.

Our Approach

Jileng Kunda will work to identify vulnerable government and community schools that are in desperate need of restoration. We take time to understand the unique needs of each school community we support and create lasting and robust foundations for generations to come. We work side-by-side until the job is done, helping schools come up with long-term plans that will educate children in their community for generations..

Current Project: Essau School Science Lab Rehab

Essau School is located in the North Banks Division of The Gambia, and is in desperate need for restoration. For this project we will construct and renovate classrooms, staff rooms, libraries, and school grounds, as well as hygienic toilets and clean drinking water. We will provide important educational materials, textbooks, resources, train teachers to give them the professional support they need to inspire their students. We completed the library renovation in March of 2022, we are now working on the science labs rehab.

With your support, we can help bring Essau School standards conducive for learning.

Completed Project: Essau School Library Renovation

  • Before

Essau School Library was in desperate need of renovation. The floors were exposed ground, broken and insufficient seating, broken shelves and not enough relevant materials.

  • After

We worked with local contractors to renovate the library. Giving it new tile floors, a fresh coat of paint both inside and outside, new and up-cycled tables and chairs for adequate seating, refurbished and new shelving, and well as new books and supplies.
