Suwai Sonko

Founder & Executive Director of Jileng Kunda Project, Suwai is a seasoned Human Resources Executive for a Fortune 100 Company with a passion for Philanthropy. 

Suwai started Jileng Kunda Project in 2018 with the mission of improving the lives of people in underdeveloped communities in The Gambia. Inspired by love, and driven by compassion, Suwai wanted to drive change through empowerment on the individual and communal level. Focusing on the communities who have the greatest need, and finding ways in which they can do the most good.

Suwai received her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, a Master of Science in Human Resources and an MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus. She is married and has 2 children, ages 9 and 5. Suwai enjoys spending time with family, traveling, trying new cuisines, and finding new opportunities to help others.

  • Ejiro Ubiedi-Morrow

    Ejiro joined the Jileng Kunda Project board in 2018. She is passionate about nonprofits, having worked for several nonprofits including Goodwill of Orange County, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Emanate Health Foundation (formerly Citrus Valley Health Foundation) and Maryvale. She holds a Bachelor's from Meredith College and a Master's from California State University, Fullerton. Ejiro is also a board member for Decolonizing the Music Room (TX) and Young Nonprofits Professional Network Los Angeles (YNPN-LA). In her free time, she enjoys researching her family genealogy online and visiting local breweries with husband, Kerry, and their dog Sunny.

  • Lexie Nichols-Dillon

    Lexie is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (2004-2007) from the public health sector in Kenya. Her experience there fueled her passion for sustainable development, water and sanitation, and equitable reproductive health care access. Lexie was previously a high school teacher but now works as a nurse and is currently enrolled in the nurse practitioner program at East Carolina University. She lives in Raleigh, NC, with her husband Brendan and their three dogs. She looks forward to visiting the Gambia one day.

  • Rhonda Copeland

    Rhonda is a retired Pulmonology Management Specialist specializing in Pediatric Pulmonology. She joined Jileng Kunda Project in 2021, passionate about helping underdeveloped communities in The Gambia where she hopes to one day retire to. Rhonda lives in Atlanta, GA and enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering where she can.
